| Ben Harper has a way with lyrics.
So a year ago on Oct 1st, I blogged about chasing dreams. The ones I listed at the time were to climb both Mt. Washington and Mt. Rainier, to pay off debt, and to move to another country. I climbed Washington, most of Rainier, paid off a large amount of my debt, and move to Alabama. Let's be honest about that last one, Alabama is truly a foreign country.
In addition to these I am marrying the woman of my dreams! I am pretty excited about this one. March 13th!
| Okay we as americans are told we spend beyond our means and should stop. Our Government however has been spending money since January like it is going out of style. Seriously we are planning to go 7 Trillion into deficit. I don't even understand that number, let alone how we EVER plan to pay that off. This would probably be the equivalent of me charging 1 million dollars on a 15% interest Credit Card. As much as AMEX would love that, I don't think it would be fiscally sound. I will not be doing it, nor should America. The sad thing is that we will have nothing to show for it. These bailouts have all been wasted. Companies are either giving them away in the form of Million Dollar bonuses to their Executives, throwing the money down the drain through the same old way of thinking. The auto industry hasn't realized that you can't make a profit when you pay someone $80,000/year to put a hubcap on a car. There are those that say we should only buy American to help America. I say B! S! The Xterra I drive was assembled by American Hands in Smyna, TN. Nissan unlike GM or Ford have a profitable company.
If you think that 7 Trillion is going to get us a functioning Health Care system you are SORELY mistaken. Last week I had to go to the DMV to get new plates for the Xterra. The literally had 1, one, uno, un, solitary, single, mono, a, 1 person working the booth with easily over 150 people in the room waiting for help. Is this how we want our Health Care to be run? I could easily die of old age before I would even get an Aspirin. This SCARES ME!
There is a great line from Star Wars Episode 3 that I will tweak to fit our current situation, "So this is how Free Enterprise dies, with thunderous applause." I realize I may get in trouble with some of the people that read this, since most voted for a man I am now VERY proud to say I did not. If you still like them, that fine, but from my perspective this man is tearing our country apart. He has destroyed the things that made our economy strong in the past. Instead of fixing the economy he is making it worse. This is bad, seriously seriously bad.
On a lighter note I have met Lisa's Parents and she has met mine. I am pretty happy about that. I am pretty happy about a lot of things these days(my above rant excluded). Life is pretty good and it keeps getting better.

Kinda nervous...meeting the parentals tonight. Nervous, but excited.
| I hate the culture of Celebrity in our country! Today Former Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara died. He barely got a subtext line on Fox News with a 90 word write up. This man was a Major policy maker during the JFK years as well as vital to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Meanwhile over the last few weeks we have seen headline after headline for Michael Jackson and Billy Mays. SERIOUSLY!!! Do we think Oxyclean is so important that the man selling it deserves more attention than a Former Secretary of Defense. Of course I love Thriller, but I promise it has not had a larger impact on the world as preventing Worldwide Nuclear Holocaust. It is unquestionable that McNamara was one of the vital parts that allowed cooler heads to prevail during those dark 13 days of our history.
P.S. His middle initial stood for Strange. Heres to you Robert Strange McNamara. You may not get the respect you deserve from mainstream media, but you will anywhere I have a voice.
On the much happier side of life I will again leave my feeling to the words of Dashboard Confessional: Color the coast with you smile, its the most genuine thing that I've ever seen. I was so lost but now I believe.
Other than being happier than at any other time in my life...that is all.
| ...when I say that something, I want to hold your hand."
